DESCRIPTION:You’re Invited: Coffee Leaf Rust–Resistant Variety Tasting & Talk with Tracie Matsumoto (USDA)Join us for our monthly Pau Hana Tasting on Friday, July 11th from 4:00–6:00pm at Pacific Coffee Research.\nJoin us for a special Pau Hana Community Tasting focused on the future of coffee in the face of Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR), a devastating disease affecting coffee farms across the globe. This interactive session will feature a guided tasting of CLR-resistant coffee varieties, accompanied by a casual, informative talk story session with Tracie Matsumoto, USDA Research Horticulturist and expert in sustainable crop development.\nTracie will share insights into the development of CLR-resistant varieties, the science behind disease resistance, and what these cultivars could mean for Hawai‘i’s coffee producers and beyond. You’ll have the opportunity to taste experimental and emerging varieties firsthand, ask questions, and connect with others passionate about resilient and regenerative coffee agriculture.\nAbout Tracie MatsumotoDr. Tracie Matsumoto is a Research Horticulturist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) based in Hawai‘i. With a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology, her work focuses on sustainable crop improvement and plant health. She has played a key role in breeding and evaluating disease-resistant coffee varieties to support the long-term viability of the coffee industry in Hawai‘i and across the Pacific.\n☕ Space is limited, so we encourage you to register early to reserve your spot. As always, this is a free event, open to the public. No coffee experience needed—just curiosity and a love of learning!\n\n
