This fairly traded and organically grown Guatemala coffee comes to us from ASPROCDEGUA (Asociación de Café Diferenciados y Especiales de Guatemala) in Huehuetenango. This producers organization was founded by a master cupper named Noe Quintero and has 664 contributing members – not all of whom are women. The women’s association is not a formal sub-co-op, but the premium earned for their Women Coffee Producers lots goes toward organic fertilizer distribution to the women farmers among other benefits. This year, the premium was used to purchase dairy cows for the women producers, which were distributed to both augment household nutrition and to provide better access to organic matter for organic compost.
