Pacific Coffee Research is a Specialty Coffee Association Premier Training Campus, quality analysis lab, roastery, and Hawaii coffee education center in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

We offer specialty coffee classes and workshops for people at all levels of experience from home coffee enthusiast to seasoned professionals.

PCR’s specialty coffee lab is located in Honaunau in the middle of the Kona coffee belt near hundreds of coffee farms. This allows us to seamlessly incorporate farm visits, lectures by local producers, and other unique and valuable supply-chain perspectives into each of our courses.

We offer classes and workshops for individuals and groups covering coffee knowledge such as pourover brewing skills, introduction to coffee tasting, espresso skills, and home roasting basics.

From beginner workshops, to custom corporate training, to multi-day SCA professional certificate programs, all of our specialty coffee classes are taught by SCA Authorized Trainers with extensive industry experience as baristas, coffee roasters, and professional coffee tasters.

SCA Coffee Skills Program

The Specialty Coffee Association’s Coffee Skills Program is the world-wide industry standard for barista training and professional education in coffee roasting, brewing, and quality analysis. The program consists of six different learning modules: A one-day Introduction to Coffee; and five specialist modules covering Barista Skills, Brewing, Green Coffee, Roasting, and Sensory Skills.

Each of the specialist modules in the Coffee Skills Program is available in Foundation, Intermediate, and Professional levels, with points awarded for completing each level. You may choose the modules that fit your interests and needs. Once you have achieved 100 points, you will be awarded the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.

The Future of Hawaii Specialty Coffee
