Jinotega, Nicaragua
Nestled in the lush highlands of Jinotega, Nicaragua, Finca Los Positos is owned and operated by María Estanislada Martínez, a dedicated coffee grower and community leader. What began as a single inherited hectare has grown into a thriving 21-hectare family farm, where María’s vision and determination have built not just a livelihood, but a legacy.
At Los Positos, coffee is shade-grown, hand-picked, and carefully processed on-site. Fermentation and wet milling take place at the farm before the coffee is sun-dried on African beds at the Aldea Coffee Processing Facility. The result is a clean, balanced cup that reflects both the region’s rich volcanic soil and the care of its producer.
María’s farm is also a cornerstone of her community — providing dignified, well-paid employment for up to 100 workers during harvest, along with food and housing. Committed to sustainability, Los Positos integrates eco-friendly practices such as mixed tree planting, Eco-Mill water treatment, and habitat conservation.
As part of the Women Coffee Producers program, María receives a gender-equity premium that supports land ownership and financial independence for women in Nicaragua, where only 15% of farmland is held by women. Her goal is to continue growing her farm while passing her passion and land to her two sons, ensuring that Los Positos continues to thrive for generations.
This Washed processed coffee has lovely notes of brown sugar, citrus, and apple.
