Aloha Star, Kona
This coffee is a 2023 Good Food Awards and 2025 15 Years in Good Food Awards winning coffee; recognized for exceptional quality and high standards in social and environmental responsibility. Pacific Coffee Research is the first Hawaiʻi-based coffee roastery to win an award in the coffee category for the Good Food Foundation!
This coffee from Aloha Star Coffee Farm is grown way down south in Honomalino Acres, Kona on Hawaiʻi Island. The producers, Armando and Karina Rodriguez, have been caretakers of their 13-acre farm since 2004, when it was a macadamia nut orchard, and planted their first coffee trees in 2013. This is a true estate farm, meaning Armando and Karina are a part of every step of the process from planting to harvest to processing and more.
Over the years, Karina, Armando, and Elias have become close friends of the PCR ʻohana. We’ve shared many meals, attended events across the island together, and built a friendship that extends well beyond coffee. Alongside his work on the farm, Armando is the founder of Aloha Latinos, a nonprofit he started after the pandemic to connect Latino Big Island residents with resources and support. The organization has since grown into a leading advocate for Hawaiʻi’s Latino community, documenting immigration enforcement actions and supporting affected families across the island. Armando has become a prominent public voice for Latino coffee producers in Kona, whose labor and stewardship have long shaped the region.
Aloha Star’s commitment to community, care for the land, and belief that good coffee is inseparable from the people and place that produce it align deeply with our own values at PCR.
