This course is designed to introduce core brewing skills and equipment to people with no previous brewing experience. Students will gain valuable experience with basic extraction principles, learn to identify common flavor profiles produced by different brewing methods, and will come away able to grind and brew using the correct recipe to produce great coffee for any method or device.
Introduction To Coffee
Explore the origins of coffee, basic growing and processing methods, and understand the general flavor profiles of different species.
Brewing Guidelines
Understand the principles of desirable coffee brewing by learning to balance strength and extraction, select a grind size, choose a water-to-coffee ratio, brewing device, and filtering material.
Brewing Methods And Equipment
Explore the different flavor profiles associated with the three major brewing methods, and gain hands-on experience with immersion, gravity, and pressure (espresso) brewing.
