Timuza Coffee Cooperative, Papua New Guinea
The Timuza Coffee Cooperative represents roughly 200 smallholder coffee families of the Kamano tribal group located in the Eastern Highlands Province. Together they farm 274 hectares, intercropped with adjacent gardens of sweet potato, taro, and cassava. The region’s loamy, volcanic soils and consistent year-round warmth and rainfall create excellent conditions for coffee, which grows under the shade of Casuarina and Albizia trees. Timuza took 1st place in Papua New Guinea’s National Cupping Competition in 2016.
Cherries are selectively hand-picked, manually pulped, fermented in traditional handwoven natural fiber bags, washed, and sun-dried.
